Welcome Adventurer!
To the world of Shonen-Verse
To the world of Shonen-Verse
You are about to embark on a fantastic adventure of action, magic, martial arts, and the supernatural. This journey will take you across multiple worlds and through a variety of time periods presented in a number of different anime and manga products including (but not limited to): Bleach, Dragonball, Naruto, Inuyasha, Hunter x Hunter, Demonslayer, and various others. Within the world of Shonen-Verse you will create one or more characters that will live, battle, and quest through whichever world they belong. Unlike with other similar RPGs which focus on a single setting, the world of Shonen-Verse contains many different worlds that your character may explore, and in doing so - will allow you to interact with characters from settings that would otherwise never meet. The journey that your character will undertake is one limited only by your imagination, and participation. Not even the sky is the limit when there are other worlds to explore!
Within Shonen-Verse, there are a variety of different threads that you can participate in. Shonen-Verse is set in its own Alternate Universe (AU) that deviates from the official canon in each of the various settings you can explore. While some official characters may be referenced, or may occasionally show up as NPCs - in the world of Shonen-Verse, you and your fellow players are the protagonists of your own story. As such, what few canon characters do appear on this site will only appear in a supporting role, and will never take the spotlight away from your original character's own heroes journey!
Roleplaying Games (or RPGs for short) are a popular type of game in which the players take the role of a fictional character, and through the eyes of that character explore a fantastic setting and create epic stories in which the player's take on the role of the protagonists (and sometimes the antagonists). In many ways, this shares a lot in common with childhood games of "make believe" such as Princesses, or Cops and Robbers, and with Improv Acting. Where a roleplaying game differs from childhood tales of wonder however, is that each game is played within a framework of rules which establish the limits of each character's abilities, and the outcome of any action they attempt.
Many RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, Vampire the Masquerade, or Big Eyes Small Mouth borrow heavily from the world of board-games when establishing the rules of the game. Such games almost always use dice, miniatures, and other board-game elements to determine the outcome of the game. Other games called MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games) such as World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online, or Elder Scrolls Online code their rules into the game's coding itself. And the third main style of RPG is called Theatre of the Mind.
Shonen-Verse is of this latter type, in which the stories are told exclusively in the player's own imaginations, and in which the rules are more nebulous and flexible. This style of game affords player's exceptional freedom in exploring the world of Shonen-Verse, and crafting stories limited almost exclusively by their imagination. This is one of the most fulfilling types of roleplaying game, because while video games like Borderlands, or Fallout are fun, there are some limits that cannot be crossed. Here, there are no limits except for those of your character itself. Any action you might wish to attempt, you can do so - and other players will respond to those actions as they see fit. Together, you will weave a shared narrative until such times as the thread comes to its natural end. Anything is possible.
In order to begin your adventures, it is necessary for you to create an account. Without an account, you are unable to create a character, nor can you create or participate in any threads. If you attempt to roleplay without an account, your posts will be deleted. Also, please do not make an account or a character unless you actually intend to roleplay here. To create an account, simply scroll to the top of the page and click the link next to the banner that says "register". Please do not ask another member to register your account using their email address, or to create an account on your behalf. You are also prohibited from creating an account name that is vulgar, or offensive.
The first step to your amazing journey is to read the rules of Shonen-Verse, which will teach you how to create a character; how to create and respond in threads; the rules of combat; and all other rules necessary for playing a character in Shonen-Verse. Once you are comfortable with the rules, the next step is to scroll down to the Characters board, and create your first character by clicking the link. Simply follow the character creation steps outlined in the rules for your chosen Archetype, and use those rules to build your own Original Character (OC).
Once you have created a character, you can engage with other player's on this site to create shared stories. Each "story" or adventure is contained in a single thread in one of the various locations in the world of Shonen-Verse - such as the Mortal World, the World of Soul Society, or the Sacred World of the Kai. Each player takes turns writing a single post describing the actions they take. These posts are written in paragraph format, and can be as detailed as the player decides.
Your character itself is stored in a thread in the Rogue's Gallery of this site (a reference and repository for all the characters active in the world of Shonen-Verse), and will gain experience and grow more powerful as you complete various threads. As your character advances in power, they will unlock new powers and abilities, and they will be able to challenge even greater obstacles.
Good luck adventurer, and happy gaming!
